The Role
We are seeking an experienced commercial leader to contribute to our exciting and ambitious growth trajectory driven by our stellar and world leading microbiome science. The successful candidate will lead our commercial strategy, drive revenue growth, and expand our market presence. This role is pivotal in aligning our commercial activities with our mission of advancing human health and ecology through microbiome-centric solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Inspire and motivate a team comprising marketing, sales and customer service ensuring coherence, collaboration and high performance.
  • Embrace and advocate for diversity, inclusion and a people first culture.
  • Model a coaching behaviour that is grounded on honest and objective feedback.
  • Provide clear guidance, set expectations and monitor deliverables versus stated company and departmental OKR’s.
  • As a key member of the senior leadership team provide support, ideas, challenge and energy to continuously improve organisational performance.
  • Identify and invest in the learning and professional development of your team.

Commercial Strategies

  • Design and execute coherent and differentiated commercial strategies that align to organisational goals, brand values and market needs.
  • Your appetite for success means that you are across customer needs, market trends using both data and insights to drive a competitive advantage. These elements will help inform future portfolio development.
  • Understand the nuances of delivering first class service to our existing customers whilst actively exploring attractive adjacencies to open new market opportunities.
  • Play a leading role in the development of existing commercial partner relationships and the acquisition of new ones to support future growth.
  • Deploy exiting systems and propose enhanced business intelligence activities that will ensure Invivo is at the forefront of customer engagement.
  • Translation of emerging and thrilling microbiome science into compelling value propositions for internal and external customers alike.

Financial Accountability

  • Accountable for the budgeting process within your functional teams.
  • Deliver both revenue growth and profitability in line with business expectations.
  • Coach and develop your teams to enhance financial literacy across the business.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, pricing and the development commercial models.

About You

Essential

  • Purpose driven and achievement through people development.
  • Proven success in a 2nd line commercial leadership role within the healthcare/nutrition sector.
  • Growth mindset with clear examples of creative problem solving.
  • Experience managing cross functionally.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions.
  • Assured and decisive.
  • Ability to operate effectively in uncertain and complex markets.
  • Real world experience of successfully launching new products to UK HCP’s.
  • Previous successful P&L responsibility.
  • Highly persuasive with the ability to build rapport and influence with and without authority.

Desirable

  • Successful experience of SME environment.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Clinical practitioner background.
  • Familiarity with microbiome biotechnology/trends and the UK market.
  • Home location commutable to Bristol and Stroud HQ.

Employment Details

  • Position: Commercial Director, part of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Contract type: Full time/permanent.
  • Location: Hybrid role with time per week to be spent at our HQ in Stroud and some travel to our laboratory in Bristol or to customer sites.
  • Reporting to: Managing Director.
  • Start date: ASAP

About You

We seek an individual who both understands and shares our passion for design, they must continue to expand on our vision, excellence and knowledge of trees and wood. They will have proven management experience in a business of a similar size and be able to demonstrate a track record of understanding a core business and be excited by all it offers from growth to leadership. Problem solving, creative disruption and team cohesion and management skills are also essential.

Additionally, we require a strong legal background, someone capable of understanding and navigating the legal landscape, particularly regarding liability and associated legal considerations. It is vital that contractually the business is always protected in its relationship with suppliers, clients and staff and keeping ahead of changing legislation and new contractual relationships.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Team Management: Ability to manage, encourage and lead a team whilst empowering individuals to work, learn and progress to the height of their abilities.
  • Strategic Thinking: Proactively anticipates and prepares for marketing trends, regulatory changes, and business opportunities. Possesses the ability to evaluate the impact of decisions across the entire company and its interconnected parts.
  • Legal Acumen: Demonstrates the ability to pose incisive questions, adhere to processes, and comprehend the broader implications on the company.  Has a comprehensive understanding of the legal landscape, encompassing liability considerations.
  • Leadership and Delegation: Exhibits the capacity to make informed judgment calls, delegate effectively, and provide overarching strategic direction.
  • Commercial Insight: Understands the commercial intricacies of the business, including industry implications and the traceability of products.  Prepares for marketing trends, regulatory changes, and create strategic business plans.
  • Visionary Mindset: Takes ownership of the project for business evolution and growth, emphasising repeat and incoming business.

  • Understand Mundy’s culture and brand, ensuring the evolution, not revolution, of the business.

Requirements and Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • A degree, and ideally an MBA or equivalent training.
  • Proven management experience in a senior role.
  • Extensive knowledge of financial and business management techniques.
  • Commercial awareness and a deep understanding of factors influencing a company’s business.
  • The ability to balance conflicting interests, with strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills.
  • Experience in high-end or bespoke product businesses.
  • Proficiency in developing and implementing strategic and business plans.
  • The ability to perform in high-pressure situations while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Effective stakeholder management and a commitment to teamwork.
  • A focus on continuous professional development and maintaining up-to-date knowledge.
  • High levels of ethical conduct: honesty, trustworthiness, integrity.
