Chapter 5: Staying Safe

In this chapter we run through the importance of staying safe during this time. Alongside online safety, health and mental wellbeing are also important during any period of isolation and uncertainty.

CONSIDERATIONS

  • Try and create complex, but memorable, passwords. Avoid 123456 and write them down on a piece of paper and keep them safe. They are very easy to forget!
  • No one should ask you for your bank details, including your bank. Please do not give them out to anyone, however nice they sound online or on the telephone. They may even know a few personal details about you. It is not rude to put the telephone down in this instance!
  • You can refuse entry to your house, put the telephone down, delete messages, not answer calls to action online and turn your devices off!
  • If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Unsolicited prizes, or offers online should be treated with caution.
  • Do not return calls from strange telephone numbers or return telephone calls if the first 4 numbers look strange. They could be premium numbers and very expensive.
  • If something pops up on your screen and looks inviting but strange, please bin it.
  • When in doubt, throw it out!
  • Share pictures, thoughts and information with care. Always think about what the recipient may be feeling.
  • Do not Google any symptoms. As Mark says in our video, Dr. Google has not been to medical school.
  • Trust your instincts!
  • Ring your Tech Buddy if unsure about anything.
